Saturday night was a night for awesome celebrations-two of our closest friends here in MN had birthdays this week and to celebrate we went to the Gasthof in Minneapolis!
Right before no spend 2012 I ordered a bunch of goodies from elf, including a black liquid liner- scary x 5,000. I've used it a few times now and decided that I'd really go for it and do a makeup Monday around it!
I always do my eye makeup last, I know a lot of people do eye makeup first but for me, it just works best last?! I used Benefit Porefessional (yes I gave it a second try) and e.l.f. Essential Eyelid Primer
(which is just as good as Urban Decay's primer potion IMO...and only $1...ELF also doesn't test on animals). Next I applied the green shade of e.l.f. Studio Corrective Concealer
under my nose to reduce redness, on any blemishes, and used the lighter cream color under my eyes. The palate itself is $3, it comes with a brush but since I have my own concealer brush (e.l.f. Essential Concealer Brush
) I like to use it! Next I applied my time balm foundation using my e.l.f. Essential Foundation Brush
. I like to keep my foundation use to a minimum so I sweep a light line on each cheek, under my nose, and on my chin.
Then I apply Urban Decay's tinted moisturizer to my entire face, starting on each side of my nose on my cheek and working out from there. I usually add a dab at a time until I build up enough coverage! The last step in my face routine is to add a bit of bronzer- I used my trusty old Stila Bronzer (I've been informed that this shade: stila sun highlighter shade 2
is the equivalent). I like to use a big fluffy face brush like my e.l.f. Essential Powder Brush
because the color goes on lightly...I'm pale, it's not like I'm trying to pretend I don't live in MN where I barely see the sun for 20 minutes a day right now...eww...is winter over yet?!
For my eyes I used Too Faced's Smokey Eye Palate's natural smokey eye shades. I applied the lightest along my brow using the e.l.f. Essential Defining Eye Brush
, the middle shade over my entire lid using
the e.l.f. Essential Eye Shadow Brush
and just up past the crease and finally added just a hint of the darkest color (a shimmery brown) to the crease using the e.l.f. Essential Eye Crease Brush
.
the e.l.f. Essential Eye Shadow Brush
Finally, I added Korres kohl liner in white to the inner rim of my bottom lid. I lightly blended it using The e.l.f. essentials sponge smudge brush.
Then it was time to suck it up and attempt to use an entirely liquid liner... I used
e.l.f. Essential Liquid Eyeliner
in black. The first thing I did was establish 2 lines-one all along my lashes, the other was the bottom half of the wing. I then slowly but surely kept adding a little more liner until I felt I had a general thickness and wing to start to connect the two. Once I felt like I had a general line I liked I fully connected the two lines.
e.l.f. Essential Liquid Eyeliner
Because I wanted the wing to extend out from the corner of my eye, not just go out from it, there essentially was an odd gap between the two, I momentarily panicked but realized I just needed to create a thicker line on the curved part of my eyelid.
To finish it off, I used Urban Decay's 24/7 liner in zero along my lashes and then added a few coats of Maybelline Falsies Flared Mascara.
PS Who watched The Walking Dead last night?! I've been a little disappointed with the lack of zombies this season and oh man, did they make up for lost time. The zombie in the car window = all kinds of amazing. They restored my faith!
I have always been a huge fan of winged liner - wearing it this morning! It's very classy, but a great way to add a little excitement to your daily make-up routine. At least in my opinion - haha! I always wear mine a little thinner, but I love the thicker, bolder line you've shown here. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeletePS: So glad that I finally found you on Twitter! <3

I love winged liner, I just usually use my regular pencil or a liquid liner marker (it has a stiffer brush which makes it easier to apply)...for some reason, thin winged liner looks really awkward on me...not sure why but it does! And I agree, yay twitter-I'm trying to remember to use it more! Xo Lori
DeleteGastofs is so fun! Did you partake in Das Boot?? :)
ReplyDeleteOf course!!! (Even though I totally shouldn't have!)
DeleteWe have a German place here in Hudson that also has das boot. Very dangerous and very fun!! I love the winged liner. And, I agree that the Walking Dead was very good last night. It has been rather mediocre lately - enjoyed it last night.
DeleteYour makeup looks spot on amazing, dear! I live off my liquid eyeliner...betting you'll never go back :) How was Gasthofs?

I think I might be able to convert to the liquid liner "marker" I got as well but as for the straight up liquid liner...just not sure yet! Gasthofs was fantastic, I've been before but I really got to partake in all the festivities more this time! xo Lori

DeleteI was so scared the first time I tried liquid liner but I almost prefer it to pencils now. I really like how you extended it outward. That is one trick I have yet to master. OH and yes the zombies last night were out in full force. I actually closed my eyes when the zombies face started to rip off from the windshield glass. So gross and yet so awesome.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, so gross...but it was done in a really cool and scary way, loved it! XO
DeleteThe winged liner looks great on you! You did a really nice job and it was your first time too! I have that same Too Faced smokey eye palate too, but I hardly ever use it. Perhaps that needs to change.
ReplyDeleteI've had it forever and I used to use it all the time and then I got bored...I've been trying to bust it out more-maybe that'll be the next makeup monday-using all three options...
DeleteI love how you did your eye makeup, you look so pretty. :)
ReplyDeletePS: thanks for following my blog! I will deff follow you since I dig your blog! xoxo
